The Director of Rural Roads, Christopher M. Blamoh, along with his team currently in Lofa County, conducted a comprehensive inspection of ongoing farm-to-market road projects on Saturday and Sunday.
The Team was joined by the Resident Engineer of Lofa County and the Local Government Engineer, reflecting a coordinated technical effort to assess progress and road conditions in the county.
The inspection covered the Voinjama–Kannalah corridor and extended to several key feeder roads that are critical to improving agricultural access and rural connectivity.
These included the Kannalah–Jarmulor (4.8 km), Kannalah–Lukamai (8.8 km), Zealorsu–Lisco (9.5 km), Kpotomai–Kpudeh (10.0 km), Kpudeh–Seekemai (10.0 km), and Seekemai–Voinjama (6.10 km) stretches.
Each of these corridors plays a vital role in linking farming communities to major markets, thereby enhancing trade and reducing post-harvest losses.
During the assessment, it was observed that all the roads under inspection are currently accessible, a significant achievement considering the terrain and seasonal challenges in the region.
The Team however noted the presence of detours at critical points along several sections, indicating areas that require urgent attention and possible rehabilitation to ensure long-term durability and safety.
Director Blamoh commended the efforts made so far by engineers and field teams, stressing the need for sustained momentum, especially with the rainy season approaching.
He used the occasion to urge stakeholders to prioritize the completion of critical segments and address weak points to maintain uninterrupted access for local farmers and traders.
The Inspection comes in the wake of government’s commitment to strengthening rural infrastructure as a means of driving economic growth and improving livelihoods across Lofa County.
As part of ongoing quarterly inspection of projects in Lofa and Bong Counties, the Director of Rural Roads at the Ministry of Public Works, Christopher M. Blamoh, alongside a delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture’s International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) project led by Torgbayeedeh Oliver Zomonway, Lead Engineer, conducted an assessment of the Gbonyea Town Junction to Gbonyea Town(9Km), and Gbonyea Town Junction to Kpaya Quelleh (8.70 Km) road projects in the Salayea–Zorzor District.
During the visit, the team evaluated the level of progress made by the contractors, Constar Incorporated, and Liberia Quang Sheng Group and emphasized the urgency of accelerating construction efforts in anticipation of the approaching rainy season, which could significantly impact road conditions and project timelines.
However, the team was largely impressed with the quality of the ongoing works and encouraged the contractors and communities alike to continue to give quality output, as well as lend moral support to the project to ensure a successful conclusion.
