President Mahama highlights golf’s role in tourism and economic growth

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his support for golf in Ghana, describing the sport as a tool for tourism, wellness, and economic development.
He made the remarks at the closing ceremony of the fourth FNB Head of State Invitational Golf Tournament at Achimota Golf Club in Accra.
The four-day event, themed “Giving Back To The Community Through Golf,” featured 120 amateur golfers and was organised by Northwestern Solutions in partnership with the Ghana Golf Association, with support from multiple sponsors.
Reflecting on his early exposure to golf at Achimota, Mahama shared humorous anecdotes from his attempts on the course and pledged to take lessons for future tournaments.
Frank Adu Jnr., President of Achimota Golf Club, appealed for government support to protect the city’s golf courses, emphasizing their economic potential.
Minister of Sports Kofi Adams highlighted plans for a Sports Development Fund and encouraged golfers to join environmental conservation efforts.
Top winners included John Ayayee (Men’s Group A), Esukis Esukise Martin (Men’s Group B), Floria Hurtubise (Ladies’ Group A), and Marlene Tonyigah (Ladies’ Group B), with additional awards for Closest to the Pin and Longest Drive presented.
